Deffro’r Ddraig 4 – Cefn Mawr/Acrefair 06:06:09
The fourth Deffro’r Ddraig event was held at The Duke of Wellington in Acrefair with a parade through the village of Cefn Mawr lead by the Cambria band. Many thanks to Shauny, the landlady for a fantastic day. Despite the wet weather what a great turnout! Thanks also to Rachel Lloyd and Matt Nichols for providing an amazing acoustic set.

Deffro’r Ddraig 3 – Pentre Broughton, 30.5.09
The Deffro’r Ddraig campaign saw its third event at The Cross Foxes, Pentre Broughton. A fun day was held that included a kung fu demonstration, raffle, tombola and competitions. The weather was glorious which allowed all of the entertainments to take place outside.
In the afternoon the Cambria Marching Band led a parade from The Cross Foxes through the streets of Pentre Broughton. Many members of the public who had come to support the fun day joined the parade proudly carrying their Welsh flags. The parade returned to the pub and Danny Gruff performed an acoustic set performing covers and also his own material. A song that he had written especially for the event concerning the sub-regional strategy was particularly well received by the audience!
The evening’s entertainment featured the ever popular duo, Calon. Yet again, they did not disappoint with their excellent choice of songs. Glyn Roberts followed next and finished off the evening’s entertainment. He went down a storm with his superb rendition of Roy Orbison and Bee Gees classics. At the end of the evening local resident John Griffiths said, “It’s been years since I’ve had a night like this. Seeing so many people coming together to support this cause gives me hope that our community will stand together against this plan.’

Deffro’r Ddraig 2 – Coedpoeth 23.5.09
The second Deffro’r Ddraig fundraising event saw Coedpoeth coming to a standstill as crowds of supporters joined the parade led by the Cambria Marching Band. The procession started from Coedpoeth car park and went through the village to The Five Crosses, Minera where a fun day was held throughout the afternoon.
The sub-regional plans were on display and hundreds of local people turned out to support the campaign.
Andy and Diane Critchley who manage the Five Crosses recently moved to the village from Southport in the North West of England. Andy said, “ It has been a great fun day and very well supported by the community and friends. Di and I feel that this goes to show how passionate and proud local people are about their nation and its heritage. We are very happy to help the campaign and keep Wales Welsh.“
Local popular duo Calon provided the evening’s entertainment belting out a mixture of traditional Welsh songs and modern pop songs.

A fun day was held from 11am – 4pm. Many thanks to the Cambria Marching Band for leading the day and to Davi Chris for keeping everyone entertained with some brilliant music.
