WHO IS SUPPORTING THIS STRATEGY?

The majority of our elected representatives within local councils and the Assembly do not know about this plan which has been mainly officer lead, there are however some exceptions. The following are the elected representatives who have publicly admitted support for the West Cheshire/North East Wales sub-regional strategy:

Andrew Davies, Minister for finance and public service delivery, Labour.

“I am delighted that the West Cheshire/North East Wales Sub Regional Spatial Strategy has won this prestigious award. Partners should be proud that they have led the way in cross-border planning and collaboration, maximising co-operation and coordination in the cross-border area.

People and businesses in the region do not recognise the border in the way they live their lives or access services, and it’s important that we positively plan to take full advantage of the opportunities this provides.

This cross–border plan helps ensure that the area’s special characteristics are conserved and used to foster sustainable development. This will enhance the quality of life of all the region’s residents.”

Karen Sinclair, Assembly Member for Clwyd South, Labour.

As we have developed the devolution project over the last ten years there has been an understandable desire to stress the word “Nation” in all things to do with Wales. Yet like successful modern countries around the world Wales must not let this nation-building interfere with the close networks of organic cross border collaboration that have built up over the years.”

Aled Roberts, Councillor for Ponciau ward, leader Wrecsam Council, also current chair of the Mersey Dee Alliance. Liberal Democrats.
